Piedra Paloma had the pleasure last June 3rd to attend the facilities of Canal Sur for the programme 'Encuentros'. Araceli Limón, the presenter of the programme, received the CEO of Piedra Paloma with the aim of increasing the knowledge about the extraction and export of natural stone that take place both in the quarry located in Zaragoza and in Seville.
One of the main topics discussed was the recent award received in February of this year, 'Bandera de Andalucía' in the category of economy and business, 'we are living very sweet moments' he affirms.
Another iconic moment was when the company Zara came to this small company to carry out a photo shoot for one of its campaigns. It took place in February 2019, 'it was quite an experience', and with regard to the material 'they were looking for nature and pure white' says its CEO. For 15 days the images and videos of this collection were in Zara shops around the world.
What makes Piedra Paloma special, as its CEO says, is that 'within its range, it is the whitest stone with the best characteristics on the market today. It can be used in many countries where cold weather is present, as it does not deteriorate'. Areas where this material can be found are Moscow, Paris, Seoul, Toronto, Vancouver. What fills you the most is to be able to see the stone on display in many places around the world', he stresses.
In 1968, the quarry was purchased to begin its exploitation, but at the beginning it was exploited as a raw material to obtain lime, 'It is from the 80's onwards when the value of the white colour of this stone began to be seen', he explains. One of the characteristics that make it unique, he says, is that it is 'very white'.
Soundings and research are currently being carried out in order to continue exploiting it and it is expected that the exploitation time of this white limestone quarry will be extended for another 30 years. At the same time, the first self-consumption solar energy plant has recently been installed with the aim of being 100% autonomous.
A highlight of the material from the quarry located in Calatorao is that the black colour has been provided by the vegetable remains that have been deposited and, at present, this is at its peak in the stone market.
Piedra Paloma would like to thank Araceli Limón and her programme 'Encuentros' together with all her team for the opportunity to show the latest advances in modern and sustainable mining.
